Mechanistic Inquiry - Justifying recipes

Justifying recipes

02 Mar 2019

I decided to ask AI (gpt-2, specifically) to tell me why we should be interested in the recipes it generates.

VR: Why are AI-generated recipes good?

They’re good, because you can create new ones every few days, and then just store them around when you’re finished.

And it works when you save them to a database that’s always there whenever you want to update. So a lot of people just turn everything back on the moment they load a recipe or change an ingredient!

It might sound great but it’s really not! For me, the only way I could actually get it to work was to use some of our own custom recipes.

VR: Sounds reasonable. Have you tried many, or maybe even all, of your recipes?

I think I have enough (I’m guessing many as well). I suggest you try some to get a start. If you have not tried the recipe in a while now, it is really that good a recipe.

Till next time, you’ll be surprised as to how much more you can make with just one of those ingredients!

VR: I see. Is there a specific ingredient you are referring to?

That would be water? Or do you mean some other thing that comes from the river? [Laughs.] But the thing that I know you’ve come across a good deal of is that you’re going to go to a convention.

VR: Excuse me? I’m going to a convention?

It’s gonna be there. I don’t want to be at the convention. So I just don’t want to have my name in this story.

This would put the first person you met on his or her radar, which is why you’re putting him at the center of the story.

VR: Okay… What is you name, by the way?

I think it’s my own thing. This is what you guys talk about when… Oh yeah, that’s right. Well, I don’t think it would be a good idea to be called that.

VR: Fair enough. Final question: what is your favorite recipe out of everything that you have come up with?

Mmmmm… It’s fun!

As I mentioned, it’s actually been around since my last recipe. So, my main goal with this recipe was to build a large bowl of mashed potatoes with some sweet potatoes and some diced tomatoes and some cheddar cheese. As such, it’s mostly made with cheddar cheese and mayonnaise, but you can whip it up with your favorite ingredients or use canned or frozen tomatoes and/or your favorite toppings for your filling.

VR: Okay now you got me interested. Say one more time how exactly does the recipe go?

There was one big trick I had up my sleeve. I added a little bit of cream, about a cup of milk to each of my milk-based sauces. I added a bit of onion-based to the cream, and then some red pepper seeds and dried basil, and a couple of achilles (some of the basil and oregano are just extra-crisp). These are awesome sauces. It makes a big, healthy meal.

VR: We are just about out of time so let’s wrap up. Many thanks for your time!

Thank you for your patience.
